Summary
The article I chose to discuss is named "Stress
at Work". This article talks about the causes of stress in the workplace
as well as the warning signs. The author of this article lists a variety of
different solutions that will help with the stress retained from work. This
article stated that stress from work is not completely a horrible thing but
that sometimes a little bit of stress could help in certain ways such as
staying focused, becoming energetic and allows you to have the ability to face
new challenges in the workplace. Being stress at work is a common feeling and
this article offers 5 different tips in order to help control your stressful
feelings in your workplace. The tips included are reaching out to others,
supporting your health by exercising and nutrition, do not skimp on sleep, prioritize,
and organize and lastly, break your bad habits that contribute to workplace
stress.
These tips explained how the more sleep you get, the
more equipped you are to tackle your responsibilities needed for your job and
could better cope with stress. It also explains that being overly focused with work
often makes you forget your health and that allowing yourself to have good
nutrition and exercise, you will be more resilient to stress.
This article also explains that stress often makes you
feel uncertain, helpless or out of control and states certain actionable ways
to regain your sense of control over your job such as clarifying what your job
description is, requesting to transfer, ask for new duties or to take some time
off.
The author further explains that people, other than yourself,
could help reduce stress in the workplace which can be our managers and
employers. Some ways to help reduce stress for your employees that the author
listed is to consult your employees, communicate with your employees one on one,
deal with workplace conflicts in a positive way, give workers opportunities to
participate in decisions that affect their jobs, avoid unrealistic deadlines,
clarify your expectations and to offer rewards and incentives.
This article relates to me personally because being stressed at work is a common feelings plenty of people have when they think about their job. Looking for solutions through reading an article and other ways to contain these feelings of stress was something I did not think of so after reading this article allowed me to learn ways to identify stress and ways to help yourself.
